The UV-5RH Pro GPS uses both GPS and BeiDou satellite systems for accurate positioning in the UK and Europe. Unlike phones that require mobile signal for location sharing, this radio transmits your coordinates directly via radio frequency to other UV-5RH Pro GPS users — no mobile network required.
APRS Compatibility: For advanced operators, the radio supports APRS (Automatic Packet Reporting System), allowing GPS data to be transmitted in a format compatible with YAESU and other APRS-capable systems — transmit function only.
Airband Reception — Monitor Aviation Frequencies
The UV-5RH Pro GPS includes AM Airband reception (108–136MHz) — one of its most distinctive features. This allows you to listen to aircraft communications, approach and departure frequencies, and air traffic control towers. This function is receive only — transmitting on aviation frequencies is illegal and this radio does not permit it.
Airband Use Note: Aviation AM frequencies (108–136MHz) are receive-only on this radio. Transmitting on aviation frequencies without the appropriate licence and authorisation is illegal in the UK and internationally.

Q: What is the real-world range in the UK?
Range depends heavily on terrain and environment. In open countryside or elevated ground (hilltops, moorland), expect 10km+. In dense UK urban areas such as London or Manchester, the 10W output penetrates buildings better than standard radios, typically providing 2–5km. Q: What does the Airband receive function do?
The Airband reception (108–136MHz AM) allows you to listen to aviation communications including aircraft and air traffic control. This is a receive-only function — this radio cannot transmit on aviation frequencies. It is useful for aviation enthusiasts, pilots, and operators working near airports.
Q: Does the GPS version have a torch/flashlight?
No. Due to the integrated GPS module, the torch (flashlight) function is not available on this GPS version. If you require a flashlight, please consider the non-GPS UV-5RH Pro model.
Q: Is the UV-5RH Pro GPS waterproof?

Can't program.
I bought this as a replacement for my original 5rh pro gps and uv5rh because I somehow failed to upload frequencies via chirp and walkie toolkit. I received a new prog cable with this one and it still won't upload, I have stopped trying as I don't want to brick a third handset. Everything else fine.
