FULL WIDEBAND RECEPTION

SSB SHORTWAVE RECEPTION (HF)

Both SW-9 units include SSB (USB/LSB) demodulation for shortwave reception from 150 kHz to 29.999 MHz — enabling weak-signal monitoring, long-distance DX listening, and shortwave broadcast reception. SSB mode is supported for HF receive only and does not include waterfall visualisation.

BLUETOOTH AUDIO — WIRELESS HEADSET & PTT

BT Audio mode enables each SW-9 to independently pair with compatible wireless headsets and PTT accessories for fully hands-free operation — ideal for cyclists, hikers, drivers, and field operators. Each radio in the twin pack can support its own wireless audio accessory simultaneously.

BLUETOOTH PROGRAMMING — OLA RADIO APP

BT Data mode connects each SW-9 wirelessly to the Ola Radio app (iOS & Android) for wireless channel programming, frequency editing, and zone management — no cable required. Each radio is managed independently from a smartphone.

MULTIPLE PROGRAMMING OPTIONS

Each radio supports four programming methods: the Ola Radio app via Bluetooth, official CPS software via USB cable, CHIRP (select "UV-17 Pro GPS" model), or direct keypad entry. Both radios in the twin pack can be programmed identically for seamless paired communication.

DUAL SMA ANTENNA PORTS

Each radio has two dedicated SMA ports: one for VHF/UHF/220 MHz communication and one for Aviation/HF shortwave reception. The SMA-M port also supports external donut SW antennas (Not Include) to improve shortwave and DX listening. Each SW-9 in the twin pack includes a standard UV antenna and a 220 MHz antenna.

FALL DETECTION (MAN-DOWN) ALERT

Both radios feature built-in tilt sensing technology that detects abnormal falls and automatically triggers an emergency alert — a critical safety feature for solo hikers, off-road drivers, and lone field workers. With two radios, both members of a pair are independently protected by Man-Down alert capability.

ONE-KEY FREQUENCY COPY

With a single button press, each SW-9 automatically captures the frequency, CTCSS, and DCS settings from the other radio — eliminating manual frequency entry when setting up the pair. One radio transmits, the other scans and stores. Both radios matched in seconds, no PC required.

2.0" COLOUR TFT DISPLAY & 1,000 CHANNELS

Each radio features a 2.0" colour TFT LCD screen with storage for 1,000 channels across 10 customisable zones. Both radios in the twin pack give each operator their own full-capacity device — channel management depth of a professional radio in a compact handheld package.

2500mAH BATTERY & USB-C CHARGING

Each radio has its own 2500mAh 7.4V Li-ion battery and USB-C charging cable. Both radios can be charged simultaneously from any standard 5V/2A USB power source — power banks, car chargers, or wall adapters. Note: USB-C PD fast chargers are not compatible; use standard 5V/2A only.

ALL-MODE DEMODULATION

Q: Are the two radios pre-matched and ready to use straight away?

A: Yes. Both SW-9 radios ship with the same factory default channel configuration. Power both radios on, select the same channel on each, and they will communicate immediately — no programming required for basic two-way operation. Use the One-Key Frequency Copy function to quickly re-match channels if either radio is reprogrammed.

Q: Do I need a licence to use the SW-9 in the UK?

A: Yes. The SW-9 is a 10W ham radio transceiver and is not a PMR446 licence-free radio. To transmit on its VHF, UHF, or 220 MHz frequencies in the UK, each operator must hold a valid UK Amateur Radio (Ham) Licence issued by Ofcom. Receiving (listening only) across all bands is permitted without a licence.

Q: How do I programme both radios with the same channels?

A: The easiest method for a twin pack is One-Key Frequency Copy — one radio transmits on the target channel while the other scans and stores it automatically with a double beep. For full channel programming, use the Ola Radio app (iOS & Android) via Bluetooth or the official CPS software via USB cable, and write the same channel file to both radios.

Q: Is a programming cable included in the twin pack?

A: No — the twin pack does not include a programming cable. Both radios can be programmed wirelessly via Bluetooth using the Ola Radio app, or via keypad entry and One-Key Frequency Copy without any cable. If PC-based programming via CPS or CHIRP is required, a compatible USB programming cable is available separately.

Q: Is the SW-9 compatible with CHIRP programming software?

Q: Can each radio in the twin pack use its own wireless headset?

A: Yes. Each SW-9 operates its Bluetooth independently — both radios can simultaneously pair with their own compatible wireless headset or PTT accessory via BT Audio mode. Q: Why won't my USB-C fast charger charge the SW-9?

A: For battery safety, the SW-9 requires a standard USB-C power source rated at 5V/2A maximum. USB-C PD fast chargers output higher voltages that are not compatible and will not activate charging. Use a standard 5V/2A wall adapter, power bank, or car USB port for both radios.
