Technician's Take: The UV-9R Pro Upgrade
"In our hands-on testing, the UV-9R Pro feels noticeably more refined than the older Plus model. The wave-pattern button design offers better tactile feedback, especially when wearing gloves. The upgrade to IP68 (from IP67) is a major confidence booster for river use or heavy rain. We also found the included '701' High Gain antenna provides a measurable improvement in reception clarity at the edge of the transmission range."

Expert Pro Tip:
The UV-9R PRO uses a Multi-Pin Waterproof Connector (screw-in type) for accessories. Standard 2-Pin K1 accessories (like those for the UV-5R) will not fit. Ensure you purchase waterproof-specific headsets and programming cables designed for the UV-9R series.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1. Do I need a licence to use the Baofeng UV-9R Pro walkie talkie 4 pack in the UK?
Yes. The Baofeng UV-9R Pro is an 8W programmable VHF/UHF radio rather than a licence-free PMR446 walkie talkie. In the UK, you need the appropriate Amateur Radio or Business Radio licence before transmitting. Reception is permitted without transmitting. Before you buy or operate the radios, check our UK ham radio licence guide. If you need licence-free communication, see our PMR446 licence-free radios.
2. How far can the Baofeng UV-9R Pro 4-pack communicate?
Range depends heavily on terrain, buildings, weather, interference and line of sight. Under favourable open or flat conditions, the UV-9R Pro can achieve considerably longer range than in dense urban areas, forests or mountainous terrain. Its 8W selectable output and high-gain antenna are designed for extended communication, but no single distance can be guaranteed. Compare more long-range walkie talkies.
3. Do all four walkie talkies work together?
Yes, all four radios in this walkie talkie 4 pack are the same Baofeng UV-9R Pro model, giving your group consistent features, channel capacity and controls. To communicate with one another, the radios must be programmed to the same authorised frequency or channel with compatible settings. Matching radios make setup easier for small teams, camping groups and organised road trips. Browse other walkie talkie 4 pack options.
4. Does the UV-9R Pro 4-pack include rechargeable batteries and chargers?
Yes. The pack includes four Li-ion rechargeable batteries and four desktop chargers, giving each UV-9R Pro its own battery and charging setup. Rechargeable batteries are convenient for repeated outdoor use because you can recharge the radios between shifts or trips instead of relying on disposable cells. You can also browse compatible walkie talkie chargers.
5. What is the number of channels, and does the UV-9R Pro have privacy filters?
The Baofeng UV-9R Pro has a capacity of 128 programmable channels. It also supports 50 CTCSS and 104 DCS codes, which can be used as signalling or privacy-code filters to reduce unwanted conversations heard through the speaker when sharing a frequency. These codes do not make conversations encrypted or private; they simply filter which matching transmissions open the receiver audio.
6. Is this walkie talkie 4 pack suitable for camping and road trips?
The UV-9R Pro is well suited to licensed outdoor communication where ruggedness matters. Its IP68 waterproof and dustproof construction, battery-saving function, VOX hands-free mode, emergency alarm and high-gain antenna make it useful for camping groups, outdoor teams and coordinated road trips. Actual range will still depend on terrain and obstructions. For more rugged options, see our waterproof walkie talkies and outdoor walkie talkies.
