Baofeng UV17_Pro.UK
UV17Pro for the UK. Positives; Multi-Band AM for listening on Airband. Color screen looks good lit up.[*] Easy to read display with more characture spaces available for Names. Improved audio reception with a better speaker delivers clear wholesome audio, not tin can of 5R's. Easy to set up via CHIRP, easy to use. Shape of radio is better, and when I use my NA771 it doesn't fall over so easily with a flat bottom, unlike the 5R ,feels like a quality HT. LED lights are bright. Features Voice Inversion & wireless copy ctss/dcss code scan for quick pairing of radios. Price ! Value for money;Yes. Cons:[*] Cannot read the display very well on a sunny day. Large fonts to VFO are not used on main channel mode screens. Maybe next upgrade? I recommend this HT for its PRICE, and having MultiBand with AM [RX only]. Already bought another as a friend wanted one after seeing my 17Pro. I will now only buy from Baofeng for a guaranteed product with best price!

UV17_Pro
I decidede to buy direct from Baofeng UK as they sell the Multi-Band version of the UV17, which means AM Airband. [Trimode is for USA & Canada]. It has good band coverage, and it will do pmr446 [despite the product description on the site saying UHF1 is 430-440Mhz] & recieves Airband pretty well considering I have no airband antenna made yet. To charge via USB-C to the battery if very useful, and should become the norm. The sound has been improved compared to my UV5R. Programming is now available via chirp, albeit airband has to be manually programmed at the moment. I'm sure a future release will allow chirp programming so we can Name the frequencies. Baofeng don't reply to the chat, postage takes two weeks, but it is worth the wait. Firmware Version V0.06 with HW Version V01 has the ctss & dcss scanner, and vioce inversion 'scrambler' as a bonus. For the money, I have no complaint. It's a cracking little radio. It is heavier and bigger than a 5R, but has a good feel to it and holds nice in the hand. At least now when you use a N771 whip antenna, the radio doesn't fall over like a 5R when it wobbles. I hope the next version will update the screen so the nice vfo mode fonts are used for memory mode, and have a screen that you can see outdoors easier. It would be good if one day, we can control the display backlight seperatly to the keys so when scanning, we can still see the progress. I do recommend this product, and have ordered another for a friend.

Improvement over UV-5R
Some really good improvements over the UV-5R. Simple one is the screw holding the battery in place but the ability to scan and save a frequency is a real game changer. Lost one star because it does occasionally seem to stop receiving, almost as if it has a sleep mode and I’ve had to turn it off and on to continue receiving. If I could add one feature it would be the ability to rename store frequencies via the unit. The software to do this doesn’t appear to be released yet in the UK.
