❓ Do I need a licence to use this radio in the UK?

Yes and No. You do not need a licence to buy this radio or to listen (receive) to transmissions, including Airband. However, to transmit (talk), you must hold a valid UK Amateur Radio (Ham) Licence or a Business Radio Licence. It is illegal to transmit on PMR446 frequencies with this device.

❓ Can I listen to Air Traffic Control (Airband)?

Yes! The UV-5R Mini has a dedicated AM Airband receive mode (108-136 MHz). This allows you to listen to pilots and air traffic control towers. Please note: You cannot transmit on these frequencies.

❓ Is it compatible with other Baofeng radios?

Yes. It works seamlessly with other Baofeng models (like the UV-5R, UV-82, BF-888S) and any other analogue UHF/VHF radio, provided they are programmed to the same frequency and CTCSS/DCS tones.

❓ How do I program this radio?

You have three options:
1. Bluetooth App: Download the "OLA Radio" app on your phone to program wirelessly.
2. PC Programming: Use a programming cable (sold separately) with free CHIRP Software or the official Baofeng CPS Software. Note: PC programming requires the Official Baofeng Programming Cable (sold separately).
3. Keypad: Manually enter frequencies directly on the radio.

❓ What is the real-world range?

Range depends heavily on terrain. In open areas (like hilltops or open water), you can achieve 5-10km+. In dense urban cities with buildings, range is typically 1-3km. This is standard for all 5W handheld radios.
