The UV-5RH is the upgraded "Pro" version. It features 10W power (vs 5W), a larger 2500mAh battery (vs 1800mAh), a bigger 1.77" screen, and receive capability for AM Airband.
With 10W of power, the UV-5RH offers extended range. In open environments (hilltops, sea), you can expect 10km+. In dense urban areas, the 10W power penetrates buildings better than standard radios, typically offering 2-5km range.
Yes and No. You do not need a licence to listen (receive). However, to transmit on Amateur bands, you need a valid UK Amateur Radio Licence. Using this on PMR446 frequencies is not permitted.
Most audio accessories (Earpieces, Speaker Mics) using the K1 (2-Pin) connector WILL work. However, due to the larger battery size, old UV-5R batteries and cases are NOT compatible.
Wireless Bluetooth Programming: To program wirelessly via your phone, you can buy the Baofeng BT-A1D Wireless Bluetooth Adapter separately. This connects to the UV-5RH and works with the official OLA App.
