Is the Baofeng UV-9R Plus really waterproof?
Yes, it is certified IP67. This means the radio is totally dust-tight and can be submerged in water up to 1 meter depth for 30 minutes without damage. It is significantly more durable than the standard UV-5R series.
Do I need a license for the UV-9R Plus in the UK?
Yes. This is a high-power radio capable of transmitting on amateur and business frequencies. To use it legally for transmission in the UK, you require a valid Amateur Radio License or a Business Radio License. You do not need a license to listen.
Do UV-5R accessories fit the UV-9R Plus?
No. To maintain its waterproof rating, the UV-9R Plus uses a specific screw-in multi-pin connector. The standard 2-pin K1 accessories used on the UV-5R will not fit. However, we include a compatible earpiece in the box.
How long does the battery last?
The UV-9R Plus comes with a 2800mAh battery. For typical mixed usage (5% transmit, 5% receive, 90% standby), it will easily last a full day (12-18 hours). In standby mode, it can last considerably longer.
Can the UV-9R Plus communicate with other walkie-talkies?
Yes, as long as the other radios are analog and programmable to the same VHF/UHF frequencies and privacy codes (CTCSS/DCS). It works with other Baofengs, Kenwood, and Motorola analog radios within the supported frequency range.
Is it difficult to program?
The radio can be programmed manually via the keypad, which is great for field adjustments. For setting up many channels with specific names, we highly recommend using a PC with a programming cable (sold separately for the single pack) and software like CHIRP.
